About HomeGrown?

HomeGrown Christian Learning Center was founded by former public school educators Jamie Porter and Alena Phillips in southern Iowa. Their shared vision grew out of years in traditional classrooms and a desire to create something different—an environment where children are allowed to be kids, learning is purposeful and relational, and education prepares students not just academically, but for life. From the beginning, HomeGrown was imagined as a place where students build the skills needed to become capable, thoughtful adults; where truth is taught through both academics and a biblical worldview; and where families are actively involved and invested in their child’s growth.

After sharing this dream with Pastor Danny at Osceola First Christian Church and receiving encouragement to pursue it, Jamie and Alena formed a team and began the work of turning vision into reality. HomeGrown Christian Learning Center opened its doors for instruction on September 5, 2023, and continues to grow as a Christ-centered learning community committed to knowing students well, partnering with families, and cultivating faith, curiosity, and confidence in every learner.
